Wanderlust's New h-OM in Squaw Valley
~by Lara Rosenbaum
If you love yoga, music, inspiration and all things organic: keep reading. Squaw Valley is gearing up for its fifth season of Wanderlust, the massive outdoor yoga/music/spirit festival that streaks across the U.S. The world’s top yoga teachers, like Shiva Rea, Seane Corne and Ana Forrest teach specialty classes while the likes of Moby and Trombone Shorty light up the evenings with live music. There are also guided hikes and mediation hikes chartered by some of their mantstage musicians, inspirational lectures from the likes of The Daily Love creator Mastin Kipp and Spirit Junkie Gabrielle Bernstein, which all come along with your typical (read: awesome) Lake Tahoe vacation activities, like SUP and mountain biking. Basically, Wanderlust means four days of capital F fun—along with a healthy dose of personal evolution.
Tracing the roots of Wanderlust Festival actually brings us back to Squaw Valley, which has opened its very own, festival-inspired Wanderlust Yoga Studio. While most yoga spaces are relatively ‘cozy,’ the Squaw Valley Wanderlust Yoga Studio boasts 1000-square-feet of calm, with hardwood floors, oversized windows and of course, the stunning views they display.
The new sanctuary doesn’t just look special. Guests can enjoy live or DJ’d music with their yoga, along with a host of all types of classes. Did we mention how yoga is excellent for skiers? Triangle pose helps uncork tight hips, and Tree pose aids balance.
As an added bonus, the studio will offer Yoga Squaw’d on Wednesdays: free community classes for anyone who’d like to join. There’s also an on-site boutique, stocked with Manduka yoga mats (among the best, known for their durability), props, clothing, books and gifts.
This year, Wanderlust stops in Squaw Valley July 18-21, a weekend that doubles as the studio's grand opening, but remember the new Wanderlust Yoga Studio at Squaw Valley will satisfy the urge to down-dog year round.
